Staff Gathering 8/25/08 At Live Oak Park

We started off with a lightening round where we go to know a little about each other by asking preferences to questions like: coffee or tea, mustard or ketchup, spicy or mild etc. Very fun and in one minute you got to know allot about someone.

We spent some time discussing in groups some of our passions and how they can impact the work that we do. We also dialogued how our passions related to our core responsibilties and developing clearer boundaries. Some of them were:

Core Responsibilites:
  • creating, sharing, organizing, planning new experiences

  • networking in social situations

  • encourage exercise opportunites

Use Judgement and Creativity:

  • change a venue, try a different activity

  • accomodate to a persons needs,

  • meeting and making friends

Not our paid responsibility:

  • Pay for souviners or food

  • if someone enjoys the activty as long as you made the attempt

  • to influence intrest in specfic activities

Here are some of our passions that we come up with today: Shopping, travel, cooking, dancing, music, Basketball, soccer, reading, walking, camping, comic books, Musuems, beach just to name a few>

We disscussed in our groups the following Question:

What needs improvement at CHOICESS, that I haven’t noticed? If you had to take the lead suddenly, what would you do about it?

This is what our thoughts were:

  1. A written overview of each person that receives support at choicess-listing their likes and dislikes so that their is a match made in heaven
  2. Social gatherings for staff and individuals that we serve
  3. no weekend team meetings
  4. pay more for mileage
  5. better communication (ditto 4 times)
  6. weekend retreats
  7. introduce all the individuals that we serve to all employees and their support staff
  8. an automatic evaluation on your anniversary for performance and raise
  9. newsletter
  10. blog
  11. Wrestiling
  12. concerts
  13. Regular staff meetings (what's working/not working)
  14. more brainstorming
  15. more input/supervision from Community Specialist
  16. Happy hour
  17. to learn more about the person before we start to work
  18. coordinating a group outing
  19. suggestion box in office

We will dive into these themes the next time we get together for a staff gathering to select the top items to work on and develop some action plans around and commitments from all of us to see some outcomes from these ideas.
